I have been waiting to do this until the last piece of our new furniture had arrived but since it is on back order I'm tired of waiting. For all of our family and friends, here is a tour of what will be our home for at least the next two years.
If you had come to our house about 20 minutes ago, here is what you would see. I did not spruce up for the tour so maybe you were an unexpected guest.
Here is JD ready to greet you at the front door. We get a nice breeze through this door. To the left are lilac bushes. All last week they perfumed the main level of our house. It was very nice. To the right is a nice little patio like area but really it is waisted space. The window to the right looks into our guest room. Lets walk through the front door now.
Straight ahead is the dining room. Directly to the right is a hall closet followed by the stairway. To your left you see what we are calling the front room. See below.
The front room is a quiet place to talk on the phone or read. We also listen to or create music in this room. It is the location for all our "dance parties". Turn around behind you here and we'll go upstairs.
Upstairs is the sleeping quarters for the whole family and the largest bathroom we've ever had in a house we've lived in. At the top of the stairs the first door to the right is the boy's room.
When you walk in (top photo) a nice size closet is to your left. JD's dresser is in front of you and the bunk beds there to the right. Fortunately all the bedrooms have ceiling fans. We would like to paint over the cars on the wall and get them new curtains. The cars are a little babyish for our boys. The next room belongs to JJ.
The set up of her room is pretty similar. She also has a nice closet. Both of the kid's rooms have TV braces in the corner which we need to find another use for. JJ's holds her Easter hat.
JJ picked out these flowers and butterflies for her room as well as the flower clothes hamper. Here in front of us is the door out of her room. Let's move on to the room to the right. It is the main bathroom.
There is a large cupboard to the right of the sink behind the door. Our bathrooms have ample storage.
The door to the left goes into the master bedroom. We'll go into our room from the hall.
Here is the master bedroom. No, I did not make the bed. The room is a nice size and we don't have the furniture to fill it which is okay. Erin's dresser is in the far left corner, mine is in the right corner of the room.
Here we are looking straight ahead from the door. My dresser is in front of you with the closet door immediately to the right and the door to the bathroom immediately to your right. Would you like to see our walk in closet? Here it is:
Yep, I found a place for the Star Wars poster there in the back of the closet. Let's go back downstairs now shall we.
Here is the living room. Watch your step. There are about four stairs down into the living room. Isn't it the most spacious one we've ever had? The fireplace is gas. From here you can see the back of our new brown love seat and in the corner our new tan lazy boy rocker. The couch under the window is our old one with the slipcover removed. I was tired of wrestling with the slipcovers so since the new couch should be here in a few weeks I just took it off.
I like the computer here in the corner. I can use the copy machine from the dining room if I want to. It came in handy when doing school. I didn't have to go down into the living room. Turn around behind you and you'll see four doors.
The first door to the left is the bathroom. Next is the laundry room then guest room then basement.
Even though this bathroom is small it doesn't seem bad to us. We've had main bathrooms with less floor space than this. Next up, the laundry room/mudroom.
A door next to the sink leads to the garage. It is a tight 3 car garage. It is mostly unpacked. The old love seat is in there if anyone would like to have it. Let's move on to the guestroom/craft room.
As you can see we don't have this room completely organized yet but we are getting there. We plan to set it up so the kids can play video games or watch movies in here. This new couch is a sleeper sofa for all the guests we hope to host here.
Down the stairs to the basement. The basement is the playroom and stays nice and cool. This part of the tour will be messy so watch your step.
We plan to bring the old sofa down and put along the back wall. It has our world and American maps on it. The yellow rocker is going back to Mom and Dad's house in a few weeks.
This is a good area for JD to play with little things he doesn't want his sister to get into.
Through this door is the storage area. If you really want to see it here it is.
There you see my freezer. On the top shelf is mostly stuff the owners left behind. I did make some room for some of my things. The second shelf holds my Sunday School materials and my stockpile which is small and has little room to grow. I need to figure out how to make the space below the shelves more useful.
My washer and dryer are in the back there covered by an old comforter. On top of them are the holiday decorations in front of them is various stuff and to the right is my whole inventory of kids clothes. Let's go back up now. I haven't shown you the kitchen.
Back up those four steps. To your right is the dining room which I didn't really take pictures of. Here you can see my counter full of school materials. Now that we are done I want to organize them a bit and put them away.
I have a nice little pantry here when the shelves don't try to fall down on me. The wall between the pantry and the refrigerator seemed like waisted space. I keep my new step stool there, a bag for recycling to go into and on the wall a white board/cork board. It is my information station. To our right we can go out to the deck.
The deck and yard are not as big as we are used to. It takes Erin half the time to mow. There is more yard there around the corner but there isn't anything there to see.
We bought a box for the deck to put stuff in so the garage wasn't so burdened. I planted some herbs in this planter but since the rabbit population is so large we are keeping it up near the house in hopes that my herbs survive.
And here is a view of the back of the house from the yard. The owners left their dilapidated grill there and several outdoor things of theirs are stashed under the deck. Around the corner is a dilapidated mower just sitting there along the house. We would like to get rid of the junky stuff but since it belongs to the owners I guess we have to live with it sitting around for now.
